Michelle Parsons 11/13/2019 5:24 PMShowing my age here, lol but I joined a Bunko group which consists of some of my neighbors on my street along with women from the womens club at the local churches in our area. At these meetings/play night we discuss a variety of topics and I mentioned the course I am taking and it started a great conversation among the women who discussed issues they see, etc. I was rather impressed.-
Lacy Cagle 11/18/2019 12:58 PMThat's so cool! I love all the ways you participate in community, Michelle!

Melissa Meinzer 11/13/2019 11:18 AMPer our section in SCL, I did end up taking a mode of transportation this week that is highly unusual for me--I drove! And it suuuuuuuuucked. I had to drive my husband to and from the hospital for a procedure requiring anesthesia--no getting getting behind the wheel for me. We had to be at Mercy at 8:30a the day after all that snow. It was dreadful stop and go traffic and scary merges, with accidents and ambulances alongside. I just thought, "I cannot believe I used to do this every day." I think you can really get habituated to anything, including the scary stress-bomb of driving, if it's necessary. The experience made me wildly grateful that using transit is a practical option for me, and actually takes less time than driving and parking would. I recognize that's not the norm, and it makes me even more desirous that it should be.-
Todd Horn 11/13/2019 3:01 PMI agree with you 110%. I dread when I have to get in a vehicle and drive. And even worse when I have to get on an interstate. I almost have to medicate myself before I get behind the wheel because of my anxiety. I am extremely grateful I am near Public Transit. Good post.

Matthew Dunn 11/07/2019 2:54 PMWent to the 6th Annual Tree Planting Day at Washington University this afternoon! Seemed like a chilly day, but once you got into the work, it wasn't so cold at all. I planted six trees/bushes: Chokeberries and Paw Paw. It was a beautiful afternoon, after all. This was in association with Tree Campus USA, a program with the Arbor Day Foundation, and an event organized (in part) by members of the Sustainability Department.

Matthew Dunn 11/07/2019 2:58 PMDon't know why my picture didn't load the first time, so here's another try. The trees were planted behind the Whittemore House on Forsyth. Even a chef of the Whittemore House got into the act!

Todd Horn 11/13/2019 3:10 PMA Paw Paw tree is a fruit tree. It produces fruit and when it drops off the tree it is only good for 2 days and then goes bad. Gotta get them fast. My grandparents had an orchard of these trees. They made brandy out of them. They are a pretty cool tree. -
Dawn Andrew 11/13/2019 9:11 AMI don't know what a paw paw is but I need one at my home. I'll look this up. -
Lacy Cagle 11/18/2019 1:01 PMI love paw paws!

Dawn Andrew 11/13/2019 9:14 AMIt was difficult. I did have some meat but very little. I noticed that I felt better without meat. My downfall is cheese. I love cheese. Eventually I will be completely meatless.

Todd Horn 10/30/2019 11:31 AMThis challenge for me was pretty difficult. I support a lot of local restaurants and drinking establishments but locally shopping for items instead of on-line is, for me, a huge headache. I wanted to challenge myself and this was one of my biggest challenges so far. As many of us, in the US, we have gotten bit by the Amazon/On-line purchasing bug. I,for one, when this kind of shopping came out thought it was the best thing ever invented. While I enjoy socializing at a restaurant or the local grocery store I despised going shopping for other goods. My wife this week needed a new dress for a social gathering in a couple of weeks. I said lets go shopping at a local boutique. After she almost had a heart attack from hearing me say lets go shopping we adventured out. To make a long story longer, we went to CurveJunkie Plus Size Boutique. It is off Manchester in the Grove and honestly it was one of the more pleasant experiences that I have had shopping. The two employees that were in the store took care of my wife's needs and desires for the dress that she wanted and she was pleased with the price and the product. She said that we needed to start shopping more locally and I believe this will start a going trend for us -

Matthew Dunn 10/24/2019 1:17 PMBecame a member of the Missouri Coalition for the Environment today. I appreciate there are hardworking individuals out there working to shift policy that will make our air, water, and soil cleaner and to inform the public of ways each person can, individually, make "greener" choices. -
Dawn Andrew 10/24/2019 6:16 AMI noticed on the new they are coming up with another fancy apple-Cosmic Crisp. A merge between honey crisp and a tart apple. It should show up in stores this December. I"m not sure how I feel about this yet.
