Ecological Principles
Reduce My Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint and talk with my family or roommates about way we can reduce our negative enviromental impact.
Teaching EVPP322 provides me opportunity to share why/how sustainability is important (material) to business as well as to articulate a vision for how business can help our society to be more sustainable.
I just signed the anti-gerrymandering petition at https://www.onevirginia2021.org/participate/petition in order to "establish a redistricting process in Virginia that is done by an impartial, independent commission based on non-partisan, objective criteria."
Fun talking with my son about what makes our footprint >1 Earth, what that implies for him when he's my age, and what we might do about it. Long-term sustainability seems so much more tangible when talking with the next generation about our current impacts in their future lives, options and world. It reminds me of Thomas Jefferson's phrase, "The earth belongs in usufruct to the living."
Okay, is that really a word?! Had to look it up, and sure enough: USUFRUCT-ACivil Lawterm referring to the right of one individual to use and enjoy the property of another, provided its substance is neither impaired nor altered.
For example, a usufructuary right would be the right to use water from a stream in order to generate electrical power. Such a right is distinguishable from a claim of legal ownership of the water itself.
I found this list of 10 sustainability documentaries that includes the excellent + 9 others I have yet to see - any suggestions?
Missing from this Netflix-limited list was the 13.5-minute "Unravel," a gorgeous and profound trip with Westerners' discarded clothes to their ultimate destination -- in India. Enjoy!
