Abigail Jones 5/13/2021 9:52 AMFor my eco-challenge this week I focussed on walking every day and trying to buy local products and veggies. Thinking about transportation made me want to bike more, but I've avoided getting a bike trailer for my little one because I'm a bit intimidated by them. Bike trailers are also crazy expensive if you get them new. I found some used ones that are 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a new one. I'll still need to save up for it, but I think that getting into the practice of biking with my little one would be good for both of us and also reduce my transportation footprint. -
Abigail Jones 5/06/2021 8:54 AMNot all of my plants did great transferring outside (I'm quite new to this!), but my lettuce is thriving. Also, my current compost system definitely has some flaws. If anyone has an affordable system that they like, I'd love to know about it! -
Abigail Jones 5/06/2021 8:50 AMThis week's topic of community related really well to my eco-change. I'm working on organizing a neighborhood baby gear/clothing swap. I was able to connect with several neighbors and answer their questions about the swap. I feel some anxiety talking with new acquaintances, especially after I've been isolated for so long from the pandemic, but I feel like it's stretching me in a good way. -
Abigail Jones 4/29/2021 9:32 AMI tried collecting rain water for my vegetable garden this week. I also made sure the plants were out in the open where they could get rain water naturally. I only ended up getting a few cups of water in the buckets I'd put out, but it was very interesting to learn about the process. -
Abigail Jones 4/29/2021 9:30 AMFor my eco-challenge this week I've been trying to shorten my showers by half and to be a little more conscientious about when I take showers. I've also been planning meals for my family from extra canned food and dry goods that we'd stocked up on but hadn't eaten. I'm working on purchasing food that is fresher and uses less packaging, but I feel good about making use of the resources that have already been spent to make the items that are already in my home.-
Abigail Jones 5/06/2021 8:51 AMThanks!

Abigail Jones 4/22/2021 9:51 AMMy plants have started shooting up. Does anyone know a generally when I'm supposed to transplant them outside?-
Abigail Jones 4/22/2021 9:57 AMThanks, Christina! -
Christina McElroy 4/22/2021 9:55 AMI'm not sure if this helps but my FB garden group recommends planting after the last frost.
Here's the link they gave me! https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates?fbclid=IwAR30MMqRBxfEDv8FZ_rsLeiNoM6VxCSTTA96RREGP7-OixyNnMKfY3h8Ac0
I hope this helps!

Abigail Jones 4/22/2021 9:50 AMThis week for my eco-challenge I've been keeping a journal of what I eat and what kind of food I'm sharing with my family. It didn't take long for me to get discouraged about the chemicals and processed elements that are in the food I, and especially my little one are eating. I talked to my partner about cutting meat out all together from our families' diet. We came to the conclusion that it may not be a lifestyle choice we would actually stick with, so we decided instead to purchase a 1/4 cow from a local organic farm and use that as our source of meat for the next year. That should be more than plenty for my family of 3 and it supports a local ranch rather than the large meat producing slaughterhouses.-

Abigail Jones 4/08/2021 7:20 AMI started making homemade smoothies this week. It helps me use up all the amazing produce I'm buying now and makes by body a little healthier too! Side bonus, my little one loves them as well! -
Abigail Jones 4/08/2021 7:18 AMThis week I decided to not do something! My partner and I were looking at buying a new, electric, 'eco-friendly' vehicle. We priced them out, went and looked at one, and figured out what our monthly payment would be. In the end we came to the conclusion that continuing to drive our 10-year old sedan would really be the best for the environment and our wallet. We personally feel that having a car is important (mostly for the little one), so the best way to do that is lessening the ecologic footprint of making new vehicles! We started looking into what it would take to convert our old sedan into an electric car instead!-
Abigail Jones 4/08/2021 1:22 PMI'm planning on working on it over the summer as a graduation gift to myself :) I'll try to set up an instagram to track my progress and share it with the class by the end of the term! -
Lena Stepp 4/08/2021 11:48 AMI've heard the new electric vs old gas car debate before but never with conversion as the end solution! If you guys work out how to do that I very much want to hear about it!
