A Call to Sustainability
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a movie about a sustainability issue I would like to know more about.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency.
Water
Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
I will save up to 15 gallons (56 L) of water a day by installing a low-flow showerhead.
Water
Install a Toilet Tank Bank
I will reduce the amount of water flushed and save up to 11 gallons (41 L) of water per day by installing a toilet tank bank.

Anthony Hauck 5/02/2020 10:21 AMDepending on the size of the back tank of the toilet, you can use a plastic bottle filled about a quarter of the way with small rocks then filled up with water in the tank to make the toilet much more efficient without reducing performance. I did this with 2 toilets. -
Anthony Hauck 5/01/2020 10:22 AMHello! This week is water, which is what my overall ecochange is about! I'm excited for this. I was able to find a good source of water conservation techniques here:
https://wateruseitwisely.com/100-ways-to-conserve/
I am happy to report that my house does not have any water leaks in the metered pipe system. Here are directions on how to read a water meter, in case anyone else wants to get as stupid technical as I like to get, haha.
https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Read-a-Water-Meter/
But remember, first and foremost is mindfulness. If you wanna conserve water, THINK ABOUT CONSERVING WATER. :)

Anthony Hauck 4/22/2020 9:04 PMI went walking around my neighborhood several time this week. It's a new development and houses are still vacant, so there are more animals than usual. I noticed two hawks sitting on a light post. I never see hawks sitting together. I assume they are a mated pair. The little birds around here better watch out! haha. A fun fact relating to hawks, hummingbirds make their nests is the same trees as hawks because they know that they are too small and fast for a hawk to pay attention to and they get the security of the hawk from other birds. It's pretty ingenious. -
Anthony Hauck 4/16/2020 5:06 PMI found the water meter outside of my house. I learned to read it online so I can now keep track of the exact number of gallons my household uses each day. The average household uses over 300 gallons a day, according to the EPA. That is absolutely INSANE. In a few weeks, I will be able to get a good average for me and then being to really focus on getting that number as low as possible. -
Anthony Hauck 4/09/2020 9:48 AMInstalling a low flow shower head is always a priority when I don't have one. I just moved into a new house and the standard shower head was very lacking in water conservation. After installing the new head, the water pressure is up more, as well. I am also going to put a time limit on my showers in an attempt to conserve even more water. I am thinking maybe 5-7 minutes. I will experiment and check back in with results.
