Britta Gonzales 4/17/2018 6:23 AMI have started my sorority's no straw campaign where we all pledged to deny plastic straws and as much single-use plastic as we can. We will also be posting about plastic pollution specifically about water damaged that is produced by them. Day 3 and going strong! -
Britta Gonzales 4/10/2018 7:02 AMStarting the week strong with meal planning this whole week. Every morning (so far since Sunday) i will have organic eggs with avocado and bananas. And I have bought groceries on Saturday and made baked ziti and organic chicken thighs with organic veggies. So far it looks like my breakfast will be the only meatless meal for the week! -
Britta Gonzales 4/06/2018 7:17 AMI watched the bio-film True Cost on Netflix. it was really heartbreaking to see the corrupt business model that the fashion industry depends on. Forcing our society to be the materialistic person and getting the best clothes at the cheapest prices while the people making the clothing get paid close to nothing and endure many sufferings. Its a completely unsustainable model that is used by many brands that I myself am familiar with and have purchased in the past about. It definitely brought an issue to my attention that previously wasn't. -
Britta Gonzales 3/30/2018 7:33 AMokay so this week I recorded all my purchases. Also completed the challenge to try and limit by purchases to only health and safety. I did the best I could. Sunday I bought my groceries only for the week, I tried to buy the produce labeled as local/organic as best as i could. Monday, I brought my reusable water bottle and lunch and snacks for the day to prevent additional unnecessary purchases. I also had to buy gas that day, necessity. Tuesday, i spent only at ikes for the afternoon in between work shifts. No other purchase made. Wednesday, no purchases all day! Thursday I also brought my lunch and snacks to work and school. I did end up buying a chocolate frosty in the afternoon because of the heat, I had forgotten about the no unecessary purchases since i was with friends. :( Friday, brought my food but know i did not bring enough, so i gave in and bought myself chips for the day. This week was very difficult! but i was happy to limit and realize all my purchases! -
Britta Gonzales 3/20/2018 9:04 AMI watched Cowspiracy on netflix. It talks about how factory farming is hurting our natural resources. I tried convincing my family to watch it with me but I ended up just explaining it to them after i watched. I am trying to convince a few friends to watch it as well. -
Britta Gonzales 3/09/2018 6:46 AMI attempted to carpool every day this week. It did go against my schedule a couple times and was unfavorable to my schedule and comfort but I got past that. I would drive in the mornings to my friends house who lives a little further than half distance to mason, he works 5 minutes off campus. And we would carpool every morning at to arrive by 8 am. Most of the time he would drive to and back from mason, but I was able to pick up and drop off one day. It was able to cut down on both of our vehical emissions and savings on gas by carpooling in the morning and afternoons. -
Britta Gonzales 3/07/2018 11:48 AMI started an electronic sustainability journal to keep track of what changes to my lifestyle i can make every day. My biggest change so far has been drawstically decreasing my plastic use when it comes to plastic bottles for drinks to straws and plastic bags. I've stopped using straws whenever at restaurants and slowly encouraged my friends to when they're around me. I make sure to always have a reusable bag for any last minute buys to reduce plastic bags. And have been much more committed to my reusable water bottle which has helped me reduce the need to buy water bottles or sugary drinks. Next i plant to understand how much waste i produce, and see what ways i can limit it.
