Breanne Clippinger 10/26/2018 7:24 AMGDP relies only on the spending in a country. The main criticism of this form of indicator is that it doesn't include any measures of social wealth within the populations, well-being does not necessarily increase with increased spending power. One alternative proposed for GDP is GPI, Genuine Progress Indicator that accounts for crime, income distribution, pollution, and other social factors. -
Breanne Clippinger 10/26/2018 7:18 AMWhen tracking my purchases, most of my money goes towards food. I should start purchasing more local foods instead of eating out. -
Breanne Clippinger 10/26/2018 7:15 AMOur house uses A LOT of energy. We should be making sure lights are off in rooms that aren't in use and turning down the thermostat in winter. -
Breanne Clippinger 9/07/2018 8:18 AMThis week I watched "Cowspiracy" and researched Sustainable Fairfax for my EcoChallenge. "Cowspiracy" really opened my eyes to the amount of pollution and environmental damage the animal agriculture industry causes and has prompted me to cut down on my meat consumption. Sustainable Fairfax has multiple initiatives addressing zero-waste and reducing water consumption. They host a variety of events each year to promote these programs to the Fairfax community. Both of these EcoChallenges taught me what steps I can personally take to prevent environmental damage.-
Jessica Hyland 9/07/2018 8:43 AMThis sounds like a really interesting documentary. I will have to check this out! Thank you for the share :-)

Breanne Clippinger 9/05/2018 9:39 AMIn EVPP 480, I hope to learn new ways that I can push myself to be more sustainable in everyday life. I also want to explore how sustainability issues are affecting the world today and what steps we can take globally and locally to combat these problems. For the Call to Sustainability session I chose to watch a documentary and do research into local sustainability groups to further my own knowledge of local action and a sustainability related challenge our world faces.
