For my Week 3 eco-challenge, I chose to pick up litter around my apartment complex and the surrounding area 4 days this week. I have noticed an increasing amount of litter and trash in the past month near my apartment and along the road near it. As such, I decided it was rather relevant to tackle the situation myself to contribute to my local community this week. I will spend 45 minutes each day, Monday-Thursday, picking up litter in the local area and recycling as much as possible. Ideally this practice will continue beyond this week as I begin to make this challenge into a habit to help contribute in whatever small way I can.

Picking up litter is huge! I love your plan and I feel inspired to do the same around my complex.

During week two I decided to take on the challenge of preparing a list of organic foods to buy for the week and stick to that list and nothing else. I decided I would source my food from the Saturday market and Talarico's Produce on Hawthorne as they are both vendors of locally grown food. I figured the best way to approach this challenge was to not only eat organically but source as much as possible from local farms as well. I created a list prior to Saturday in order to take advantage of the market I live so close to, where I bough mostly vegetables, eggs and some home made quiche. I made mostly vegetables & rice with locally sourced chicken breast I bought as well. Through and through I actually saved a lot of money and was able to support local business by cutting out food delivery and shopping without making a list prior.

For my first week's eco-challenge, I chose to watch a documentary to help engage myself in the subject matter a bit more. I selected David Attenborough's "Our Planet" which does an amazing job of not only examining the impacts of global warming but simultaneously highlighting why its so important to maintain the vital ecosystems that make up our world. The stunning visuals from around the world only compliment the subject matter and draw the viewer in to the importance of lessening our global footprint in order to preserve the natural beauty of this world.
