I watched this brief documentary about bottled water, and while it was short, I learned a lot. One of my main takeaways is that bottled water—while pictured to be bottled from mountains and streams—is often purified tap water, despite bottled water being from the tap. On top of that, these companies create demand for bottled water by marketing it to be healthier, taste better than tap (though it often does not, which I can attest to; as a self-proclaimed water snob, I'm not too fond of the taste of bottled water), and more environmentally friendly (which it is not). It reminded me of something I learned in a class from spring term about oil. The world has a wealth of oil, so they created a more robust demand for oil by fostering the idea that oil is scarce to make oil a valuable, strategic commodity. Recently, I lost my reusable water bottle, but I am quickly going to buy a new one (from a local shop, of course).

yasmeen did you watch the Story of Bottled Water?  It ASTOUNDS me that we are still doing this in a country with good water. it also erodes our confidence in and support of public water
