Today I went to Walmart and bought three things for my dad.  I didn't need a bag so I just carried them.  The couple at an adjacent checkout bought three things as well: a bottle of water, a candy bar, and a small bag of chips...and they put it in a plasitc bag. I didn't say anything but as I was walking out, I noticed that they took out the water bottle and snacks and THREW the bag away in the trash can!! YIKES!! Another customer was walking out with 2 carts full of bottled water AND gatorade!! DOUBLE YIKES!!! Go Bengals!!

I watched the town council meeting on TV to see if any sustainability issues were discussed. No!  I skimmed the city's sustainability plan that was adopted 9 years ago that is entitled 2040 Vision. I can't see that much follow through has occurred.  So my action for the week was contacting the city council members by email. I asked them for some direction and told them some of my concerns.  I also watched The Human Element about fire, water, earth, air and the fifth element, HUMANS. We are still eating meatless. It hasn't been that hard...except when we are asked to eat out with others or dine in their home. We don't want to be THAT COUPLE!!

My husband and I watched Forks Over Knives and together we haved decided to move toward a plant based whole food diet.  I was shocked because my husband has been adamant about being a meat eater.  However, we must ease in because of food that already is on our refrigerator and we do not want to participate in food waste. In the meantime, we are trying meals suggestions on the Forks over Knives app.  The oatmeal pancakes were pretty good.  It will certainly be a process.

A very good book in this vein is Food and Western disease - Health and nutrition from and evolutionary perspective by Staffan Lindeberg.  It is a science book not really an easy read but full or data.  The conclusion from the book is to limit or eliminate : grain, dairy, refined fat, sugar and beans; Instead, eat vegetables, fruit, root vegetables and nuts though not peanuts. Lean meat and fish are also good.

I wanted to share this link about bottled water. I have always been a tap water person. Not only for the cost but the tap is a better "product".

I started to take an energy audit and hit so many road blocks. This lets me realize that if we are going to enlist the help of EVERYONE, we all need to strive to make things easier for all to be involved...not just the motivated. I live in an aparment building and the audit needed my energy use in kilowatts. I contacted the apartment manager who gave me the needed infomration.  I was not able to save my data as the link that was emailed to me to verify my account was a broken link.  I contacted the energy company. Additionally, many of the answers to my quesstions were more linked to homeowners. All of this took more time than necesary and I would likely have given up...except fot his class.
