This past week I tried to research other transportation options in my community. Unfortunately, I could not locate that many opportunities.   I did locate several bus lines within walking distance. And The metrolink is not too far off that. I feel like I could utilize those resources. I've always had a positive experience riding the metrolink, and it goes right to the university as well.

This past week I chose to only shop local. I wanted to control frivolous shopping and utilize local businesses. These days it is way too easy to shop online and in chain department stores. I shopped local supermarkets and went to thrift a store. I had no idea how much I shopped online until I was forced to stop filling my online shopping cart. I will definitely try to utilize local shops and businesses in the future.

Hi, Dan:  I agree, online shopping is dangerously easy.  While it's convenient, I do long for the days that we can return to in-person shopping.  I think that the experience of interacting with small business owners is part of our history.  Small business owners share so many wonderful stories.  Each year, my husband and I try to support Small Business Saturday (always the Sat after Thanksgiving).  This year, I am worried about small businesses as they continue to contend with COVID-19.

This past week I replaced bottled water with a reusable water bottle.  In the past I have used bottled water, and utilizing a reusable bottle was easier and more efficient. I ended up drinking more water throughout the day as well, which is definitely something I need. I do not think I'll go back to using bottled water. I purchased a "Nalgene" bottle, and will continue to use it.

That's awesome, Dan! Was your single use plastic water bottles a hard habit to break? Do you think that being home more in light of the current situation  has effect your ability to use a reusable water bottle? I know my brother loves his reusable water bottles, but when he would often not bring it out with him and then need to purchase bottled water while he was out and about in NYC.

This past week I watched the documentary "Forks over Knives". This was a documentary that reflected on the correlation between eating animal products and disease in humans. It was amazing to see how a plant based diet could transform the lives of people with diabetes. My wife suggested that I try to replace meat with alternative protein sources. For me, this seems like a reasonable idea, and something I will work on for the benefit of my health.

That's great Dan. There are many great sources out there to help you in your planning. I'll check out that documentary too.

I joined this challenge because I am not familiar with any hiking trails in st. Louis. This seemed like the opportunity for an adventure and to learn about nature. This past week my challenge was to explore a new hiking trail.  I went to Powder Valley in Kirkwood and it was great! I was able to view and explore a beautiful hiking trail I've never experienced before. Its amazing to view nature in this form to remind myself how we should do everything we can to preserve and maintain this beauty. If we don't make an effort to maintain these wonderful parks and trails, then future generations may not be able to appreciate them as we have.  After my hike this weekend I am looking forward to my next opportunity to explore a new trail.

St Louis County Parks several years ago had a 30/30 program. 30 hikes(some were just walking trails) 30 Minutes(Usain Bolt couldnt do some in 30 minutes). We enjoyed the challenge. We did see there is a distinct difference in park amenities based on location. We have Powder Valley on the list.

Powder Valley is a hidden gem in St. Louis County.   Which trail loop did you do?
