Although I personally did not install the system, my whole neighborhood has solar panels on their roofs. It's a law in California that every new house be built with solar panels. The only decision you have is whether you want to buy them or lease them. With the solar panels, there have been times where my parents receive credit since so much energy was saved they didn't have to pay for any of the electricity used that month.

This was quite interesting for me. I had to do some extra research to see what things qualified for this challenge and what didn't. At the end of the challenge it was scary to see how much waste I myself am making. I can't imagine what the total is for my household or even my neighborhood. After this I am planning on doing more research to see how else I can help cut back in this area.

I went to the farmers market this past weekend to help prepare my for this week's Eco challenge. I had never been to this farmers market, actually the only one I've been to is the one in Portland. So the trip to my farmers market was a fun experience. I live near so many farms as well so it felt as though I really knew where my food was coming from. After this trip I do plan on coming back to grab some local healthy items.

I found it fairly difficult to find what farmers markets were open this year with COVID and the ones i did find were so far from gresham but im super lucky where I have a "growers outlet" store so it's like a local farmers market store that is open everyday so I shop there most days

This actually is a funny story. The new neighbors that just moved in had dropped their phone down in the sewer and needed some help getting it out. My family got together and tried to help them to the best we could with some tape and nets. After probably thirty minutes we finally got the phone out and it was quite the bonding experience in getting to know them. It also brought other neighbors out who stuck around and talked to everyone. This allowed us to talk and plan some things to do around the neighborhood such as a block party when social distancing no longer separates us.

I have been doing this for several weeks now but my house is fully equipped with reusable straws and reusable bags for groceries. Starbucks has put in an effort with using a nitro lid and only handing out straws if asked for. There was a set back when COVID-19 first happened since in many grocery stores you weren't allowed to bring in your own bags. I tried to continue my no waste efforts and would bag my own groceries once I was back at my car. So my motivation this week was to buy all of my family members a reusable bag along with a reusable straw. Allowing seven other people to say no to plastic as much as possible.

I'm not sure if it makes me a jerk but i definitely never stopped using my own reuseable bags I just told them I would bag my own stuff..

I recently started the WHOLE 30 this week since I was gifted the book by my sister-in-law after she had completed it. With this guideline to follow set by the book meal planning has been a new thing I've incorporated. This past weekend I planned out my meals for the week so when I went grocery shopping I bought only the essential ingredients. I made sure not to purchase anything that wasn't on the list even though I was tempted. Meal prepping was a little time consuming as well but it has paid off so far.

This week I decided to spend an hour outside everyday to be able to appreciate nature and my life. I changed what I did outside everyday. Sunday was yoga, Monday was a workout, Tuesday was for meditation/prayer, Wednesday was for yard work, Thursday was for washing cars, today is for a walk and Saturday will be spending time with family. So far I've felt thankful for my health and the ability to be able to do all of these tasks.  I also felt better about myself just being outside for an hour would drastically change my mood, so I plan on continuing this activity.

So for this week I decided to go searching for a new trail around my neighborhood. Every night my mom and I take our dog for a walk so this worked out perfectly. This trail is right behind my house so it's close walking distance to get there. The trail ends at a park which conveniently has a dog park. We plan to walk this mile and a half trail at least four times a week. Not only does this give us some peace but also increases our walking mileage compared to what we normally do.

That's always exciting finding new places! My neighborhood used to have a lot of forest trails, but the last decade a lot of it got developed sadly. I have a pond i could walk around, but its not as natural!
