Two 72-hour weeks puts my values and goals on hold. It’s more about survival. I can understand now why those who barely get by find challeging one’s self in any area difficult. I didn’t care what I ate or how sloppy I got with my recycling, bringing my own cup etc. It was all about pulling myself out of bed to start again.  Not an excuse just better understanding of how and why not everyone can embrace a challenge.

That's come up during different discussions on separate environmental issues and while at first I didn't get it, I do now.  And you're right - it's not an excuse - but it's a fact.

Why did I start the challenge: To re-evaluate my definition of sustainability and create goals that will take me out of my comfort zone. More importantly, to regain the momentum I had before getting into a relationship — a relationship where my partner is not in full support of my efforts. I chose actions that in part I am already doing but wanted to ramp up; had an interest in, but knowing the demands on my time would not be daunting, but doable.

Good Morning Terry - I just saw your post so I apologize for not getting back to you sooner' I see that a NWEI rep has contacted you so I'm hopeful that your questions have been answered; I'm glad that you joined our team and although we'e off to a very slow start I'm hopeful that we'll be picking up a little momentum here soon; I've done several of the eco-challenges in the past and I always get a lot out of them.  Hopefully I'll be a little more diligent about checking my feed here in case you have any questions or would like to chat about any of the challenges in particular.  Again  nice to have you on board

I have never done a course like the before. Does anyone know how this works? It is described as "Interactive hour-long course sessions using the Northwest Earth Institute’s online meeting service." Is that facetime? A platform for responding via text? Please advise. I am also unclear as to what we should have prepared prior to the class. Sorry but things are crazy in my office and the plates are spinning. Thanks for any advise or guidance you can give.

Also for my plastic crusade: I brought as much used plastic from my partner's house that I could fit into my bag; I met a friend for breakfast and used the real silverware option (the ice coffee only came in a plastic cup, which was a bummer but Flour bakery is diligent about recycling and composting). I did my own juicing of organic veggies to avoid the store-bought juices in plastic containers; the pulp will feed my worms; and I asked for help from you all ... so I can be an asset to this online course! So send me your notes!

My partner has announced she is eschewing k-cups and giving up her Keurig (yes!!) for a coffee maker that uses a gold filter so not even paper filters are need. I will have grounds for my compost. This is a huge step in our household. She is also gravitating toward my "homemade" seltzer made with my PUR filtered water instead of plastic jugs of water. I chose not to criticize nor condemn the Keurig, just continued to use my French press instead. (She is blind and a French press can be tricky when dealing with boiling water. The coffeemaker will be safe.)

I apparently have two challenges going at the same time, which means my efforts and the upcoming Sustainability online class will be a trifecta of sorts. I am hoping the NWEI course will keep the my momentum going as I always need a reminder, a boost, social support.
