This week I tried walking to more places instead of driving. Normally I would drive to nearby stores if I need anything even though it would only be a medium length walk to get there. I noticed a lot of the streets around my house don't have sidewalks so I was forced to walk in the road a lot of the time. Now I'm not saying that walking with groceries and stuff is fun but it is not the hardest thing to do and I'm glad I did it.

This week I have tried to reduce water consumption and use in my household. I already tried to not be wasteful with the water I used but this week I got everyone in my household to be mindful. I got them to take shorter showers, and not leave the sink running if they weren't expletively using it. I'm not sure exactly how much water we saved but getting people to go from 20-25 minute showers down to 10 must have had some impact.

This week I've tried to only use reusable water bottles. I normally only use reusable water bottles so I also tried to "encourage" my family to also only use reusable water bottles and containers. It went well and we cut our disposable container usage by a bit this week.

This week I tried buying only what I need which turned out to be harder than it sounds. When I went shopping this week I had to really plan out all of my meals and make sure I wasn't over buying. I also needed to not get distracted by all the other things that I really enjoyed eating or drinking. Honestly this challenge was super hard and I really didn't like doing it. I am so used to having extra stuff to mix things up so it was a pretty ruff week.

This week I decided to try and eat 2 meatless meals a day, and was successful at it. I was very skeptical that I would actually be able to find meals that I enjoyed eating since I am kind of a picky eater but it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. I chose two meals a day since I already never ate meat for breakfast and wanted to try and cut it out of another meal as well. I ended up eating a lot more salads and mixed veggies than usual so I'm sure my overall food was better for me this week.

My current reality is that I believe that I am already pretty environmentally conscious. I use reusable water bottles whenever I leave the house, I do not use straws to drink any liquids, and recycle everything that I can. Even when I get a new electronic device I scrap whatever I am replacing for parts and recycle everything that I can't use. The reason that I am taking this class is to learn some more things that I can do to help the environment.

Week 1 Eco Challenge: This week I tried to cut out plastic bags from my shopping trips, normally I always forget to bring a reusable bag with me but I have yet to use a plastic bag this week. I am hoping this can form habit of even after I stop putting so much focus on it.

Always remembering my reusable bags used to be really difficult for me too! I started putting them on my shoes by the front door so I wouldn't forget them as I left. If you have a car/bag that you use on a regular basis you could always throw a couple in there too!
