Going on my regular walks but walking in different directions when I can. Im also reminding myself as of this week to take a tote with me to walk so I can pick up litter I see along the way and not have to walk around carrying trash in my hand for an hour haha.

I biked to pick up groceries this past week instead of my usual car pick up. Even during the rainy days which was usually my excuse not to bike before. It was kind of nice once I got some fenders on and felt really good to do my quick errands by bike. I still am a little nervous to be biking around Hawthorne after getting door-ed. But I think that the pandemic has made the roads a lot less congested and there are more bike routes that are currently closed to automobile traffic. I think ill keep biking to pick up groceries as long as it fits in my bike basket.

I did still put together a meal plan for the week as its something I do every Sunday. But the meals that I had planned were all really quick fix things as I hadn't had time to get the groceries I wanted to for the week. I was able to supplement some of the arugula im growing along with some other left over vegetables and cheese for a couple salads which was nice. But the rest of the meals consisted of the things I had that were mainly frozen items. Ive decided to start stocking up on frozen things that I have made instead of reheating pre-fab products so when my next slow weekend pops up it will be a long day for my crock pot.

Ive been able to go to the outdoor small market that the co-op in my neighborhood hosts. Since its not a very large event people are able to social distance pretty well. I was able to get some mushrooms and some sweet onions and have made a plan to grab some more fruits from a vegetable stand near my neighborhood. I think its a nice way to get super local produce and also get a bit of exercise in by walking to multiple places instead of driving to my usual large grocery store. Im really enjoying the social distanced human interaction as well.

This week I didn't do as well as I had hoped with eating all whole foods. My work schedule has been unusually busy with other deadlines so I neglected my grocery shopping and ended up just throwing some quick frozen items together for meals. I have decided to make some soups with whole foods and freeze them just incase to ease my schedule up when i'm busy with deadlines.

Excited to use some of my early season veggies in my meal planning for this week. Some arugula and leeks are almost ready to use so that'll be fun to make some recipes with those.

my attempt to regrow some green onions from my last grocery run have been successful so now im growing a lot of green onion shoots in a planter in front of my apartment. Usually trying to regrow vegetables hasn't worked for me so im excited that the green onions are working

As of right now this is how the green onions are doing. I’ll have to plant them in front of my apartment for better sunlight

Im really grateful for having meal planned earlier in the week. I got vaccinated yesterday and its kicked my butt. So to be able to have something ready in the refrigerator to eat when im hungry is so helpful instead of having to cook right now or to cave and order a delivery food item. My stomach definitely appreciates the food prepped rather than a delivery pizza.

I have started some seedlings today for some vegetables and herbs that I really like and may not find frequently at the co-op. Ive also finished my composting garden bed this week and am really excited to see what I'm able to grow in the food waste, right now I have carrot seeds, beets, arugula, and leeks growing in the compost garden bed. I have also transferred many of my smaller herbs into a more portable herb planter in order to grow herbs successfully year round.

They're a way to fill raised beds without having to use too much soil. Starting with large branches, rocks and yard debris from the winter im lining the lower 1/2 of the containers im using. Then using smaller yard debris, leaves and mixing in soil from last year and my compost pile I'm filling most of the rest of the way, and I top the final 5-6 inches with my normal potting mix. As the organic mater continues to break down the dirt level does sink so usually in a grow season I do top it off with 1 more compost and soil layer.
